At Jaipur’s oldest thana, crime records at your fingertips

Atop Kotwali police station, worn-out metal index cabinets lines a dimly lit room. These rickety drawers contain fingerprint records dating back to 1956. Within the four walls of Fingerprint Record Bureau (Jaipur), are thumb impressions and single digit fingerprints collected from all major crime scenes of the city, including terror strikes of 2008, and a certain burglar who had broken into a dozen houses in a single night about a decade ago.
